Overview

A 1940s Ballard home was being remodeled down to the studs — the perfect time to retire its original knob-and-tube wiring. We rewired the whole house with modern, grounded circuits while the walls were open, then trimmed everything out for the new finishes.

The challenge

The original knob-and-tube was ungrounded, brittle, and uninsurable. Wiring it room by room later would have meant repeated wall damage, so the open-wall remodel was the ideal moment to do it once, properly.

What we did

We rough-in wired every room with grounded circuits, added AFCI/GFCI protection where code requires it, and right-sized dedicated circuits for the kitchen and laundry. After the rough inspection we trimmed out devices, fixtures, and a freshly labeled panel.

Results

  • All knob-and-tube removed and replaced
  • Modern grounded circuits with AFCI/GFCI protection
  • Dedicated kitchen, laundry, and bath circuits added
  • Home made insurable and fully code-compliant
